The Clinical Nurse Specialist Grade 2 (CNS 2) is a Registered Nurse who applies a high level of clinical nursing knowledge, experience and skills in providing complex nursing care directed towards a specific area of practice, a defined population or defined service area, with minimum direct supervision. The CNS 2 is responsible for the provision of high quality, professional nursing care that is underpinned by compassion and consistent with NSW Health and ISLHD values, policies and standards.
The CNS 2 is required to work to their scope of practice and retains the responsibility and accountability for their personal and professional actions.
The Palliative Care CNS 2 provides a consultative level specialist service offering complex case management of inpatients including timely assessment and discharge planning in conjunction with the medical staff specialist. The role also provides education, advice and support to other health professions in the management of clients with a life limiting illness.
The Palliative Care CNS2 also provides support to the multi-disciplinary team to ensure correct inpatient assessment and utilisation of Resource Utilisation Group Activities of Daily Living (RUGADL) and Australian Karnofsky Performance Scale (AKPS) measures and Palliative Care Outcomes Collaboration (PCOC) data as a common language to describe the patient’s condition.
All staff are expected to act as an appropriate and effective role model, promoting a culture that supports practices that reflect the NSW Health CORE values of Collaboration, Openness, Respect and Empowerment through demonstrated behaviours and interactions with patients, clients and employees.
