About the opportunity
An exciting opportunity exists for an experienced Clinical Nurse Specialist Grade 2 to join the Voluntary Assisted Dying (VAD) Service. As part of a small, dynamic multidisciplinary team, you will play a key role in supporting patients, families, carers and healthcare professionals through one of healthcare's most sensitive and complex areas of practice. This specialist role provides the opportunity to coordinate care, provide clinical expertise and collaborate with a broad range of stakeholders across hospitals, community services, residential aged care facilities and private providers throughout Hunter New England.
The Role
Working across the district, you will provide specialist nursing support, case management and care coordination for patients accessing the Voluntary Assisted Dying pathway. No two days are the same, with responsibilities ranging from supporting individual patients and families, to delivering education, building
partnerships and providing expert advice to healthcare professionals and services. Based at Wallsend Campus, this role requires travel throughout the district, including occasional overnight stays.
About You
You are an experienced and compassionate Registered Nurse with current registration through the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia and post-registration qualifications in Palliative Care, Acute Medicine or Critical Care Nursing. You have recent clinical experience in one or more of these specialty areas and are committed to delivering high-quality, patient-centred care.

- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to navigate sensitive conversations relating to end-of-life care.
- Experience supporting patients, families and carers through complex decision-making and challenging situations.
- Strong emotional intelligence, resilience, integrity and professional judgement.
- Well-developed critical thinking, problem-solving and organisational skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities.
- The ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
Experience building effective relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders across health and community settings.
Essential requirements:
Current registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia with relevant post -registration qualifications and at least 3 years' experience working in the clinical area of their specified post-graduate qualification
Eligibility to drive in NSW and willingness to travel for work purposes
