Where You’ll Be Working

The John Hunter Hospital Emergency Department is a fast-paced, Level 6 tertiary referral service providing care to some of the region’s most complex patients. You’ll join a highly collaborative, team-focused environment where respect, continuous learning, and multidisciplinary partnerships are prioritised, ensuring staff thrive while delivering high-quality, patient-centred care.

About the Role

This new Clinical Research Nurse position blends advanced clinical practice with research leadership in a dynamic emergency setting. You will coordinate and deliver research studies, screen and recruit eligible patients, ensure protocol adherence, manage study data, and support bedside staff to integrate research into everyday practice. You’ll also liaise with investigators, clinicians, managers, and external partners, contributing to ethics, governance, and study monitoring.

From day one, you’ll be supported to embed a strong research culture within the ED. Structured orientation, mentoring from senior clinicians and researchers, and access to ongoing professional development will help you grow in the role. This is a unique opportunity to influence how research is delivered in a high-performing department, champion evidence-based practice, and support innovation that directly improves patient care.

About You

You are authorised to practice by AHPRA as a Registered Nurse and are eligible to drive in NSW and willing to travel for work purposes. You are an experienced Emergency Department nurse with strong clinical credibility and the ability to practice autonomously in a fast-paced environment. You bring excellent communication, organisation, and multitasking skills, along with a sound understanding of evidence-based practice, ethical research, and governance processes.

Prior experience in clinical research, study coordination, or data management is highly desirable, as is confidence in mentoring and supporting staff involvement in research. A genuine curiosity, adaptability, and enthusiasm for advancing emergency care through research will enable you to grow into this role and help foster a sustainable research culture in the ED.
