About the Opportunity 
South Western Sydney Local Health District is seeking a highly motivated perioperative nurse with experience in leading staff and developing relationships to facilitate the provision of patient centered evidence-based nursing care. The successful applicant will lead with a practice development philosophy in the delivery and implementation of the LHD Surgical and Procedural strategy by leading quality improvement activities and embedding the standardisation of education and training activities across the perioperative services within the LHD.

The successful applicants will be working across the 5 perioperative sites in SWSLHD.



What You'll Be Doing
The District Clinical Nurse Consultant (CNC) for Perioperative services is an expert practitioner who, through leadership, facilitates the provision of high level patient centered evidence-based clinical nursing care and is expected to embrace and lead a practice development philosophy in the delivery of that care. This is achieved under the provision of five (5) domains, those being clinical service and consultancy, clinical leadership, education, research and clinical services planning & management.

The position is expected to be able to take initiative and be relatively independent, confident and self-directed.

The District CNC for Perioperative services works with facility perioperative unit staff, facility executive team, clinical streams and district executive to establish, progress and evaluate systems and processes within perioperative units across SWSLHD, ensure consistency of processes (where applicable), that are evidence based and reduced unwarranted clinical variation.

The District CNC for Perioperative is also responsible for coordination and driving quality improvement activities, standardization of education and training activities across the perioperative service and development of a district model of care framework for perioperative services in line with the one service multiple sites approach.

  1. Current Authority to Practice as a Registered Nurse with Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency (AHPRA). At least seven (7) years fulltime equivalent post registration clinical experience, with five (5) full time equivalent post graduate experience in the specialty field. Have approved postgraduate nursing qualification or experience deemed appropriate by the public hospital or public health organization.
  2. Please outline your clinical experience and qualifications relevant to the CNC 3 domains and functions.
  3. Demonstrated experience in initiating and implementing changes to improve clinical service delivery through enhanced models of care to improve staff and patient care delivery.
  4. Demonstrated ability to initiate, lead, and successfully implement evidence based projects, quality activities and research relationships with a broad range stakeholders.
  5. Highly developed clinical problem solving and analytical skills with the demonstrated ability to interpret data and apply insights practically to development and evaluation of models of care, education materials for patients and staff.
  6. Applicants must possess an Australian C-Class driver's license (including P1 or P2). Those who hold a C class license (P1 or P2 included) from a state other than NSW must obtain a NSW C class (P1 or P2 included) license within three months of appointment. Learner's licenses are not permitted.
