About The Opportunity

There are several roles (temporary and permanent) available across SWSLHD mental health units, at Bankstown and Campbelltown:
- The Adolescent Mental Health Unit (Campbelltown Hospital) – Temporary Part time
- A53 Intensive Rehabilitation Unit (Campbelltown Hospital) – Permanent Part time
- Banks House (Bankstown Hospital) – Permanent Part time
We are seeking enthusiastic and experienced clinical or forensic psychologist to join the recently restructured inpatient psychology team under the Clinical Psychology Head of Department. Within this role, you will have the opportunity to be linked with two teams, one where you are supported by psychologist colleagues working in other mental health units across SWSLHD. The other team is the multidisciplinary team of the mental health unit, which includes nurses, psychiatric registrars, consultant psychiatrists, social worker, occupational therapists, and diversional therapists.
What You'll Be Doing
To deliver targeted psychological and psychosocial assessment for diagnosis, interventions and consultation in order to address the needs of consumers who are living with complex mental health problems and disorders. Typical presentations involve management of acute suicide, self-harm, psychosis, drug and alcohol issues, severe anxiety and depression, and challenging behaviours. You will have the opportunity to provide 1:1 psychological intervention, run group programs, assist in diagnostic clarification, and behavioural management support. The successful applicant will also participate in the evaluation of clinical outcomes of services and assists in the development and provision of education and training programs. Additionally, the successful applicant supervises Psychologists and other disciplines working within the LHD, according to organisational needs and if appropriate to the psychologists’ stage of professional development.
SWSLHD Inpatient Mental Health Services provide comprehensive care across several facilities, including the newly redeveloped Campbelltown Hospital and Liverpool Hospital. These services offer a safe and therapeutic environment for individuals with acute and non-acute mental health needs.
The multidisciplinary teams, consisting of professionals with diverse mental health expertise, deliver exceptional care through specialised units such as the Mental Health Intensive Care Unit, Adult Acute Unit, and Older People's Mental Health Unit. The service is committed to patient safety and high-quality care, maintaining external accreditation with the Australian Council on Healthcare Standards.

Full registration with the Psychology Board of Australia with Endorsement in Clinical or Forensic Psychology (or eligibility to progress to same), along with a minimum two year Full Time equivalent APAC accredited postgraduate Clinical Psychology or Forensic Psychology qualification.
Describe your experience in conducting psychosocial, psychometric, and cognitive assessments within a mental health setting. In your response, include an example of how the assessment outcomes were used for case formulation, intervention planning, and evaluating treatment effectiveness.
Provide an example of a time you delivered evidence-based psychological interventions to a consumer with acute or complex mental health needs. Outline how you exercised independent clinical judgement, collaborated with the multidisciplinary team, and adapted your therapeutic approach to maximise consumer outcomes.
Applicants must possess an Australian C-Class driver's license (including P1 or P2). Those who hold a C class license (P1 or P2 included) from a state other than NSW must obtain a NSW C class (P1 or P2 included) license within three months of appointment. Learner's licenses are not permitted.
