About the Opportunity
In this role, you are expected to provide daily management and mentorship of trainee coding staff whilst ensuring there is ongoing delivery of an education program aimed to support improvements in coding practices and the development of the coding workforce across SLHD.
You will be responsible for:
- the development and delivery of the Coder Trainee Program to develop new clinical coders who are able to meet competency requirements and enter the district coding workforce.
- ensuring that there is an ongoing professional development education program within SLHD for existing coding staff. Working with casemix, performance management and clinical managers.
- assisting in the coordination and implementation of projects and/or reviews aimed at improving the operational efficiency and performance, effectiveness and quality of medical documentation and clinical coding within allocated facilities.
- ongoing education to clinicians on improvement in clinical documentation and ABM activity.
You will be expected to develop an annual plan for the delivery of Casemix/Coding Education sessions for Clinicians and other hospital staff. The Coding Educator will have responsibility for the development, monitoring and refinement of an education program in line with the evolution of ABF. The Clinical Coding Educator, in consultation with the Clinical Coding Coordinator and Coding Auditors will support improvements in clinical coding accuracy, consistency and timeliness by focusing on coding workforce educational needs.

Ideal Candidate
- Degree, Diploma or Associate Diploma in Medical Record Administration or Health Information Management, the completion of a recognised coding course (HIMAA or OTEN) or other relevant related qualifications and/or requisite experience relevant to the role.
- Extensive clinical coding experience in a major teaching hospital, across a range of specialties with a proven knowledge of Australian Coding Standards, DRGs and Casemix and their application within the health system.
- Experience in staff training, development and supervision with demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional development..
