What you'll be doing
 

The Child Life Therapist will provide family centred clinical services to inpatients and/or outpatients referred to Child Life Therapy. 

The Child Life Therapist will utilise specialist knowledge to plan, implement and evaluate developmentally appropriate therapeutic and medical play, procedural education & support, to reduce anxiety through teaching coping strategies and distraction, and to maintain and extend developmental milestones where possible. 
 

The Level 3 Child Life Therapy will use their advanced professional knowledge and experience to support staff and to share in the growth and development of the department by: 

  • Planning, development and evaluation of child life therapy services.
  • Development, implementation and evaluation of policies, procedures and practice guidelines for patient care.

We are offering an exciting position for an experienced Child Life Therapist as the Educator within our Child Life and Music Therapy Department at The Children's Hospital, Westmead. The role is largely non-clinical with a small clinical component.

With specialist knowledge and experience this combined clinical 
and educational role will contribute to the department's growth and development by leading staff and student clinical education. Please refer to our attached Educational Leader Statement of Duties for further information.

Please note the days of work and length of shifts are negotiable with the successful applicant of this role. 

About You

We’re looking for someone who:

  • A bachelor of Education / Teaching (or a degree with a minimum of 2 years proven studies in Child Development plus education content)
  • Postgraduate experience, skills and knowledge in Child Life Therapy provision, leadership and service development
  • Experience working with children 0-18yrs – especially 0-8years
  • Demonstrated time management and prioritisation skills with an ability to work flexibly within service demands.
  • Demonstrated experience and commitment to continuing education, quality management and/or research activities.
