We are seeking an experienced Career Medical Officer (CMO) to join our dynamic Intensive Care Team at Maitland Hospital.
This is a temporary, fixed-term position for 12 months, with the potential for conversion to a permanent role for the right candidate.

About the Role
The CMO will play a vital role in the safe, collaborative care of critically ill patients. Working alongside Junior Medical Officers (JMOs) and ICU Specialists, you will ensure timely and efficient patient care in our Critical Care services. This role also requires high-level communication across multidisciplinary teams to facilitate exceptional patient outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide clinical care under the direction of the Director of Medical Services and ICU consultants to effectively manage patients.
- Ensure continuity of clinical care, coordinate services, and manage patient handovers and discharge planning, including completion of the ANZICS database.
- Contribute to quality improvement (QI) initiatives within the ICU and across the district.
- Lead the effective coordination of hospital care, facilitating communication between specialty teams, administrative groups, and community services.
- Mentor and train team members while supporting multidisciplinary care.
Essential Requirements - Qualified medical practitioner registered in Australia with a minimum of five years post-graduate experience.
At least two years of specific training and experience in:
- Intubation and management of mechanically ventilated patients
- Care for patients with septic shock and multi-organ failure requiring vasopressors and inotropes
- Insertion of central venous catheters (CVC) using aseptic techniques
- Monitoring patients on Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy (CRRT)
- Appropriate escalation to ICU specialists in the event of patient deterioration.
