Where you’ll be working
Join the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS) Greater Newcastle, based at 1a Dudley Road, Charlestown. While your primary location is Charlestown, you may also travel within the Lake Macquarie area during work hours. CAMHS is a specialist mental health service dedicated to supporting young people (0-17 years) and their families across the Hunter New England Local Health District. You will work in a collaborative and supportive multidisciplinary team, providing innovative and developmentally appropriate care.
About the role
As a Social Worker at CAMHS, you will:
- Provide high-quality assessment, treatment, and case coordination for children, young people, and their families.
- Work within a multidisciplinary team, contributing your social work expertise alongside Aboriginal Mental Health Clinicians, Psychiatrists, Occupational Therapists, Psychologists, Nurses, Dietitians, and Speech Pathologists.
- Deliver trauma-informed care, ensuring interventions are evidence-based, client-centred, and culturally sensitive.
- Exercise independent professional judgment while maintaining legal, ethical, and best-practice standards.
- Identify and implement service improvements to enhance clinical practice and consumer outcomes.

This is a Social Worker level 3 position however, if there are no appropriate Level 3 applicants, applications from Level 1 and 2 will be considered. The selection criteria reflects the requirements for a Level 3 applicant. Responses from Level 1 or 2 applicants need to demonstrate their level of competence with regard to the same criteria and their ability to work towards Level 3. The expected performance of the incumbent will be commensurate with his/her years of experience and current level at commencement of appointment. The incumbent will work towards meeting the criteria for Level 3.
