NSLHD facilities are located on picturesque and tranquil settings, located in Sydney's prestigious North Shore, Northern Suburbs and Northern Beaches areas. We offer our employees the choice of working across multiple sites, with exposure to a broad range of skill development opportunities.
These sites include:
Ryde Hospital is an acute hospital within metropolitan Sydney and forms part of the NSLHD. Services provided include Emergency Department, High Dependency Unit, Cardiology, General Medicine, Orthopeadics, General Surgery, Rehabilitation, Midwifery Group Practice and a number of ambulatory services. Ryde-Eastwood has an excellent transport network in close proximity to the Hospital.
Mona Vale Hospital, located on the Pittwater Peninsula between Manly and Palm Beach, continues to have a vital role in providing healthcare services to the Northern Beaches community. The hospital is currently in a transitional phase where it is being transformed with new services and infrastructure including the new Adolescent and Young Adult Hospice (AYAH) which will be opening in the near future. Mona Vale Hospital delivers inpatient rehabilitation and an Urgent Care Centre which operates 24/7 to treat minor injuries and illnesses
The Hornsby Ku-ring-gai Health Service incorporates a 295 bed, major metropolitan hospital providing a comprehensive range of secondary level services, outpatient services, six community health centres and ten early childhood centres. There are a large range of departments and services, these include general medical – Coronary Care Unit, general and dementia/delirium and surgical wards- general surgical and orthopaedic , two rehabilitation wards, Emergency, Medical Assessment Unit (MAU), Intensive Care Unit (ICU), paediatric ward and maternity inpatient unit with four birthing suites and a special care nursery and eight operating theatres including endoscopy suite. The Hornsby Ku-ring-gai Health Service stretches from the Hawkesbury River to Lindfield, east to St Ives and west to Pennant Hills, Cherrybrook and Epping. There is a great opportunity to work in a vibrant teaching hospital with orientation included.
Royal North Shore Hospital (RNSH) is a principal tertiary referral centre as well as a NSW Trauma Centre and major public teaching hospital. RNSH is situated in close proximity to the vibrant suburbs of Crows Nest and Chatswood, with excellent public transport links and rapid access to the CBD. Specialities include Surgery, Medicine, Women’s & Children’s Health, Critical Care Services - ED State Trauma Centre, Operating Theatres, ICU General, Neurology/Neuroscience and Cardiology. State referral for Burns/Plastics, Neonatal Intensive Care, Interventional Neuroradiology and Acute Spinal Cord Injuries.
Each facility within the NSLHD has a dedicated NUM to support the casual workforce in training, education and performance development. We support our staff in developing their knowledge and skills with access to Clinical Nurse Educators in all units.
Expectation of casual pool staff: We expect all our staff to consistently demonstrate behaviours that reinforce the CORE Values of our organisation; Collaboration, Openness, Respect and Empowerment. Demonstrate these behaviours with all stakeholders; colleagues, direct reports, as well as our patients and consumers, and those that care for them.
NSLHD casual pool staff are expected to work a minimum of 2 shifts per month in order to maintain their position on the casual pool.
What you'll be doing
The Assistant in Nursing will provide support to the nursing team, both Enrolled and Registered, in the delivery of nursing care in an acute care environment. They will be directed tasks and monitored by the Registered Nurse. The incumbent will retain responsibility for their own actions and remain accountable to the Registered nurse for all allocated functions. The tasks an Assistant in Nursing will undertake include; room preparation, handling and positioning of patients, gathering of equipment, simple wound dressing, assisting in toileting, showering and bathing patients and removal and cleaning of bedpans and urinals.

Candidates will need to meet the following criteria:
- Currently enrolled in second or third year of a Bachelor of Nursing or degree deemed appropriate or completion of HLT33115 Certificate III in Health Services Assistance (Assisting in Nursing Work in Acute Care).
- Demonstrate effective communication both written and verbal communication skills and an ability to incorporate effective interpersonal skills.
- Evidence of prior completed acute clinical placements as part of an undergraduate nursing degree or AIN course is highly desirable.
