As the largest paediatric health service in Australia, we care for thousands of children each year, in hospital and at home. Our people are united by compassion, collaboration and excellence in care.
Assistant in Nursing (AIN) – Complex Medical Inpatient Unit & Long Term Ventilation
Be part of an Australian first service transforming the way children with complex medical needs receive care. The Complex Medical Inpatient Unit (CMIPU) is a purpose built 21 bed unit opening on Level 13 of the Wattle Building in May 2026, designed to support children who require frequent admissions, long term care and highly coordinated support.
A key feature of the Unit is Long Term Ventilation (LTV)
The LTV provides specialised care for children who require long term ventilation via a tracheostomy. This service offers comprehensive clinical support, education and continuity of care for children and their families as they navigate the complexities of long term respiratory support. As an AIN, you will play an essential role in supporting these children and contributing to a stable, nurturing environment.
What you'll be doing
Working under the supervision of Registered Nurses, you will:
• Provide safe, compassionate and developmentally appropriate care
• Support children who rely on long term ventilation and other complex medical needs
• Assist with daily care activities, therapeutic routines and comfort measures
• Build strong, trusting relationships with children and families
• Work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team to ensure seamless, integrated care
Who We Care For
Our patients range from birth to 18 years and present with a wide variety of conditions, including:
• General medical, respiratory and sleep conditions
• Complex medical diagnoses and co morbidities
• Feeding and growth challenges
• Genetic conditions and disabilities
• Airway and respiratory support needs, including long term ventilation
For many families, the LTV becomes a consistent home base during prolonged hospital stays, offering stability, continuity and a team who truly understands their child’s long term needs.
