What you'll be doing
The aim of Advanced training in Respiratory Medicine is to gain learning and experience in the etiology, diagnosis, prevention and treatment of diseases affecting the lungs and related organs. This position will focus on evaluating and managing patients with acute lung injury, diffuse interstitial lung disease, disorders of the pleura and mediastinum, asthma, bronchitis and emphysema, pulmonary embolic disease, pulmonary infections including COVID-19, tuberculosis and infections in the immunocompromised hosts, primary and metastatic lung malignancy, pulmonary vascular disease, respiratory failure and sleep-disordered breathing. Contained in the assessment and management of these disorders, the trainee will be involved in the full range of respiratory diagnostic investigations, including full lung functions tests, cardio-pulmonary exercise tests, sleep studies, bronchoscopy and pleural procedures. 
  
Close supervision and liaison with consultants will allow the Advanced Trainee to demonstrate their level of ability and understanding of patient care and enable individual expansion of clinical responsibility. All patients managed within the hospital are under the direct care of a specialist medical practitioner. All decisions regarding their care are to be clearly communicated with the specialist responsible for that care. 
  
The position is an accredited Trainee in Respiratory and Sleep Medicine (FRACP) working at the level of an Advanced Trainee The trainee is expected to provide effective medical services to patients under supervision, while developing expertise in medical practice, in a complex multi-disciplinary clinical environment. The trainee needs to have demonstrated ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary clinical team – diligence, punctuality, organisation, record keeping, time management, problem solving skills and team work. The trainee is expected to possess excellent communication (verbal and written) with patients, their families, medical and non-medical colleagues  The trainee needs to have demonstrated ability to provide empathetic and expert clinical care, and commitment to ongoing advanced training education, research and teaching; and commitment to continuous quality improvement.
