- MBBS or equivalent, currently registered with the Medical Board of Australia.
- Minimum RANZCO accredited ophthalmic training of 4 years; generally in Australia or New Zealand (or equivalent elsewhere)
- Work with other members of the team: Head of Department, VMO’s, Staff specialists, Other trainees, Paramedical staff, Administrative, Orthoptic and Nursing staff in managing patients attending this service
- Satisfactory general ophthalmic surgery skills in cataract surgery to be able in many cases to work independently
- Interpret ophthalmic imaging modalities including radiography and CT/MRI scanning..
- Understand the role of paramedical staff – orthoptists, nurses and social workers in the care and management of the ophthalmic patient.
