Where you'll be working
 
SESLHD is one of the largest local health districts in Sydney, covering a geographical area of 468 square kilometres from Sydney’s central business district, the beaches from Bondi to Cronulla and down to the Royal National Park. We deliver health care to around 930,000 residents across the local government areas of Woollahra, Waverley, Randwick, Bayside, Georges River and the Sutherland Shire. We also provide a key role in helping residents of Lord Howe Island. Our staff also deliver high quality health care across a variety of community-based services ranging from pre-birth to palliative care.
 
The role
 
The Aboriginal Project Officer – Cultural Capabilities supports the design, delivery, coordination and evaluation of initiatives that strengthen Aboriginal cultural capability and cultural safety across the organisation. The role works in close partnership with Aboriginal communities, Aboriginal staff, leaders and key stakeholders to embed culturally safe practices, policies and behaviours that improve outcomes for Aboriginal patients, families and staff. 
 
To provide high‑quality day‑to‑day administrative support to the Aboriginal Health Directorate, including the coordination, management and continuous improvement of administrative systems and processes, to enable the Aboriginal Cultural Capability Team to achieve their objectives in a culturally safe, timely, efficient and effective manner. The role also undertakes a range of project and program activities, working collaboratively with internal teams and key partners to support the priorities and overall objectives of the Aboriginal Health Directorate.

Selection Criteria

  1. Must be of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent Applicant's race is a genuine occupational qualification and is authorised by Section 14 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977, NSW.
  2. Demonstrated understanding of Aboriginal cultural protocols and cultural safety, with the ability to build and maintain respectful relationships and partnerships with Aboriginal communities and to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders.
  3. Demonstrated ability to successfully plan, evaluate and report on projects within allocated timeframes and resources.
  4. Demonstrated ability to work autonomously with limited supervision, as well as collaboratively as part of a team, to manage a range of tasks within allocated timeframes.
  5. Demonstrated effective interpersonal and verbal communication skills to collaborate with key stakeholders.
  6. Demonstrated excellent written communication skills with the ability to prepare complex correspondence, briefings and reports as well as provide secretariat support.
  7. Demonstrated ability to be flexible and adapt work practices to meet current and emerging business needs.
  8. Current drivers’ licence (with a willingness to travel in accordance with the demands of the position).
