Achieve Something Great
The Aboriginal Palliative Care and Cancer Services Workforce Educator plays a key role in strengthening culturally safe and responsive care for Aboriginal people accessing cancer and palliative care services across South Western Sydney.
Working in partnership with Cancer Services, Palliative Care Services, the Educational and Organisational Development Service (EODS), the George Institute for Global Health Guunu-maana Team, Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations and local Aboriginal communities, you will coordinate and deliver cultural capability initiatives that strengthen workforce capability and support culturally responsive care.
The role provides cultural guidance to staff, supports research and service improvement activities, and promotes culturally respectful communication with patients, families and carers to improve experiences and outcomes for Aboriginal people.
Be Part of Something Bigger
SWSLHD operates across the traditional lands of the Dharawal, Darug and Gundungurra peoples and works in partnership with local Aboriginal communities to deliver culturally responsive healthcare.
As the Aboriginal Palliative Care and Cancer Services Workforce Educator, you will be part of a broader Aboriginal workforce and community, working alongside Aboriginal Health teams and Aboriginal staff across the District. We recognise that improving the experiences and outcomes of Aboriginal people accessing cancer and palliative care services requires strong cultural leadership, meaningful partnerships and a culturally capable workforce.
In this role you will have access to:
- Dedicated Aboriginal cultural support and guidance through the Aboriginal Health Unit to strengthen cultural leadership, inform decision-making and support culturally responsive practice.
- Cultural strengths mapping and opportunities to connect with our Aboriginal Health and Workforce teams and Aboriginal staff networks across the District.
- Opportunities to work collaboratively with Cancer Services, Palliative Care Services, the Educational and Organisational Development Service (EODS), the George Institute for Global Health Guunu-maana Team, Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations and local Aboriginal communities.
Are You the Right Fit?
We are seeking a culturally strong Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander professional who is passionate about improving Aboriginal health outcomes and strengthening the cultural capability of the health workforce. The successful candidate will demonstrate:

- Experience designing, delivering and evaluating education, training or workforce development initiatives that improve cultural safety and service responsiveness.
- The ability to build and maintain effective partnerships with Aboriginal communities, Aboriginal organisations, health services and key stakeholders.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage respectfully and effectively with a diverse range of people.
- A commitment to advocating for culturally safe, respectful and inclusive care for Aboriginal patients, families and communities.
