Applications are invited from suitably qualified medical practitioners for the above position in the Western Sydney Local Health District.  The position provides secondary and tertiary level consultations and management of patients with complex mental health conditions. There are comprehensive treatment programs and active research in Western Sydney Local Health District. Successful applicants will be expected to take part in planning and service development as well as having an active role in training and supervision.

 

Preferably Applicants will hold an Older Person Mental Health Certificate or have experience in OPMH. Applicants with extensive experience in adult psychiatry will also be considered.

 

Successful applicants will work as part of a well-established team, with peer-to-peer support, and opportunities for personal and professional development. There are opportunities for a variety of roles: supervision, consultation, teaching and research. Successful applicants will provide admitting, consultative, procedural, outpatient and on-call services within the specialty as determined and required by the district.

 

Applicants expecting to be awarded their Fellowship within 6 months may be considered. If successful, the applicant may not be subsequently eligible to commence their appointment until after the relevant qualifications and requirements are formally completed.

 

Successful applicants may be offered a conjoint university appointment within the Faculty of Medicine at the relevant University attached to each facility. The level of academic appointment will be commensurate with the qualifications, experience and scholarship and will be held only during the tenure of the Western Sydney Local Health District appointment. No remuneration is attached to the University appointment. The appointee will be responsible to the University for academic matters and to the District for clinical matters

 

Conditions of appointment are in accordance with the Staff Specialists (State) Award.

Selection Criteria

  • Possess or be eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia and Fellowship of the RANZCP or equivalent as provided for in the Staff Specialists (State) Award. Must have Australian Citizenship or Permanent Australian Residency.
  • Sound clinical knowledge of comprehensive Mental Health service provision demonstrated through successful clinical practice in an environment appropriate to the requirements of the position with experience inpatient and Community Mental Health.
  • Sound knowledge of principles of Recovery based clinical practice and integrated Mental Health Care.
  • Demonstrated skills and attitudes appropriate for practice as a Senior Medical Practitioner including:

o  High level interpersonal and communication skills.

o  Demonstrated ability working within a multidisciplinary team.

o  Experience and involvement in quality assurance activities and evidence-based best practice.

o  Demonstrated commitment to teaching and supervision.

  • Familiarity with research concepts and commitment to support basic, applied or clinical research within the Department.
  • Experience in community and OPMH psychiatry desirable.
  • Previous experience working with older persons and in community setting.
  • Form relationships with non-government organisations who have Forensic patients in their residential care or who provide day services and support the General Psychiatrists in regard to risk issues, management and accountability at the MHRT hearings. In regard to management of Older Aged Patients.
