Applications are invited from suitably qualified medical practitioners for the above position in the Western Sydney Local Health District.  This position is expected to be based within Western Sydney Local Health District at Cumberland Hospital and community, or as agreed with the Director of Clinical Services MH in any other part of the Mental Health Service.

 

The position essentially provides secondary and tertiary level consultations and management of complex mental health patients. There is a comprehensive range of treatment programs along with active research within Western Sydney Local Health District. This position is expected to support the provision of medical input for the indigenous population with Mental Health issues.

 

Applicants expecting to be awarded their Fellowship within 3 months may be considered. If successful, the applicant may not be subsequently eligible to commence their appointment until after the relevant qualifications and requirements are formally completed.

 

Successful applicants will be working in a motivated and highly rewarding position within a well-established senior team, supported through high quality supervision and training. There are opportunities for supervision, consultation, presentations and innovative research as part of the role. Successful applicants will be expected to provide admitting, consultative, procedural, outpatient and on-call services within the specialty as determined and required by the District.

 

This position may involve travel within the District.

 

Successful applicants may be offered a conjoint university appointment within the Faculty of Medicine at the relevant University attached to each facility. The level of academic appointment will be commensurate with the qualifications, experience and scholarship and will be held only during the tenure of the Western Sydney Local Health District appointment. No remuneration is attached to the University appointment. The appointee will be responsible to the University for academic matters and to the District for clinical matters.

 

Conditions of appointment are in accordance with the Health Services Act 1997 and Public Hospitals (Visiting Medical Officers Sessional Contracts) Determination 2014.

Selection Criteria

 

Please outline how you satisfy the selection criteria listed below. In addressing the selection criteria, include any relevant skills, knowledge, qualifications and experience:

  • Possess or be eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia and Fellowship of the RANZCP or equivalent as provided for in the Health Insurance Act 1997. Must have Australian Citizenship or Permanent Australian Residency.
  • Sound clinical knowledge of Mental Health service provision demonstrated through clinical practice in an environment consistent with the requirements of the position.  Experience in inpatient and community mental health.
  • Demonstrated skills and attitudes appropriate for practice as a Senior Medical Practitioner including:

o  High level interpersonal and communication skills.

o  Demonstrated ability working within a multidisciplinary team.

o  Experience and involvement in quality assurance activities and evidence-based best practice.

o  Demonstrated commitment to teaching and supervision.

  • Sound knowledge of principles of Recovery-based clinical practice and integrated Mental Health Care.
  • Past experience in Acute Adult and Community Mental Health is desirable.
  • Previous experience of working with co-morbid Drug & Alcohol with Mental Health and indigenous population is desirable.
