What you'll be doing 
As the Child and Family Health Nurse (CFHN), you will play a vital role within the New Directions Aboriginal Mothers and Babies Program, supporting infants, young children, and their families through culturally responsive, strength-based care.

In this role, you will:

  • Deliver high-quality, evidence-based child and family health services within a primary health care model

  • Partner with families to support early development, wellbeing and parenting confidence

  • Identify health, developmental and psychosocial needs using early intervention and wellness-focused approaches

  • Work closely with Aboriginal Health Workers and multidisciplinary teams to improve outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children

  • Contribute to community education programs and advocate for equitable access to services

Essential Criteria:

  • Qualifications: Postgraduate qualification relevant to performing the role of a Child and Family Health Nurse, or currently enrolled with a course completion date within 2 years of employment). 

  • Registration: Current enrolment with Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency as a Registered Nurse Division 1. 


Selection Criteria: 

  1. Current enrolment with Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency as a Registered Nurse Division 1 and postgraduate qualification relevant to performing the role of a Child and Family Health Nurse, or currently enrolled with a course completion date within 2 years of employment.

  2. Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal and / or Torres Strait Islander cultures and have knowledge of and / or links with the local Aboriginal community.

  3. Demonstrated understanding of issues impacting on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and their families and evidence of post-registration experience working with families and young children, including experience working with families from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander backgrounds.

  4. Demonstrated ability to organise and prioritise work.

  5. Commitment to evidenced based Child and Family Health nursing practice; including an understanding of Families NSW and primary health care principles and practices.

  6. Demonstrated good oral and written communication skills and computer skills.

  7. Demonstrated knowledge of and ability to utilise information technology systems within a variety of applications and a commitment to undertaking training in electronic health record systems.

  8. Current drivers licence valid in NSW and willingness to use for work purposes.
