Essential Criteria:

Evidence of Diversity claim: Proof of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander (pursuant to Section 14 (d) of the Anti-discrimination Act NSW 1977)

Selection Criteria:

  1. To be a person of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent. Aboriginal / Torres Strait Islander is a genuine occupational qualification and is authorised under Section 14(d) of the Anti-discrimination Act 1977
  2. CHC43515 Certificate IV in Mental Health Peer Work (Consumer) or willingness and commitment to obtain within 18 months of employment
  3. Ability to utilise lived experience to support others in their own mental health and wellbeing recovery journey
  4. A demonstrated knowledge of the Aboriginal concept of social and emotional wellbeing including and understanding of Aboriginal family structure and Aboriginal culture and wisdom. This will include an understanding of the practical and emotional issues that may arise when working with Aboriginal individuals with mental health concerns and their families.
  5. Understanding of the challenges Aboriginal consumers may experience in accessing mental health services and demonstrated ability to liaise, proactively engage and work collaboratively with vulnerable communities and relevant agencies in ensuring culturally responsive services
  6. Ability to facilitate peer-led supports, recovery groups (yarning circles) supporting others on their recovery journey through recovery planning, navigating the system and encourage community to access support
  7. Current unrestricted NSW drivers' licence and the ability to maintain. Ability and willingness to drive/travel as the role requires
