Permanent 1.0FTE Staff Specialist – Executive Director Medical Services
Western Sydney Local Health District
Applications are invited from suitably qualified medical practitioners for the above position in Western Sydney Local Health District. The position will be primarily located at Westmead Hospital within the District Executive Office, leading the Department of Executive Medical Services.
Successful applicants will lead the Medical Services across WSLHD and will bring with them high level technical skill and experience, along with extensive leadership and management experience in senior medical positions. An ability to collaborate and engage with a large medical workforce, providing leadership and governance with a strong safety and quality approach.
Applicants must have Australian Fellowship/Specialist Registration at time of applying
Appointees may be eligible for credentialing and privileging across all other facilities in the Western Sydney Local Health District.
Conditions of appointment are in accordance with the Staff Specialists (State) Award.
Essential Requirements for Appointment
1.Medical degree (MBBS or equivalent) and current registration with the Medical Board of Australia plus Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Medical Administrators, or an equivalent specialist qualification. Specialist medical practitioners without Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Medical Administrators who possess post-Fellowship tertiary management qualification at a Masters level such as MHA, MBA or equivalent, will also be highly regarded.
2.Extensive clinical and operational management experience at a senior management and/or executive level within a complex health care environment, including strategic planning and the development/implementation of business operational plans.
3.Demonstrated medical administration experience and comprehensive knowledge of and experience in managing current issues in medical workforce, comprehensive knowledge of professional and practice issues surrounding medical clinical practice, medical staff training and industrial requirements for medical officers.
4.Strong relationship building capabilities and influencing skills with the ability to communicate, motivate, consult, and negotiate with senior executives, Senior Medical Practitioners, and diverse stakeholder groups including consumers.
5.A comprehensive knowledge of and commitment to health system safety, quality, risk management, change management, improvement systems, innovation and best practice.
6.Demonstrated highly developed conceptual, analytical, problem solving and planning skills, with the ability to apply these to support management. Applicants will be required to demonstrate leadership, coaching, mentoring and training skills to support a range of change management initiatives.
7.Well-developed capacity to work independently with minimal supervision and collaboratively in a team environment, with an understanding of and ability to work with committees.
Selection Criteria
1. Qualifications and credentials required for core scope of practice in the specialty.
2. Evidence of additional qualifications, skills and/or experience required for specific scope of practice for the specialty.
3. Demonstrated skills and attitudes appropriate for practice as a Senior Medical Practitioner including:
o Proven ability to work effectively and harmoniously with medical and other health services colleagues as part of a multi-disciplinary health care team.
o Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with patients and colleagues.
o Excellent organisational, supervision and collaboration skills with demonstrated ability to build respectful relationships.
o Maintaining and developing knowledge, skills and professional performance to the level required for contemporary practice.
o Experience and involvement in quality assurance activities and translation of research into practice to improve patient safety and quality.
4. Demonstrated ability to manage time and resources efficiently and contributing to the effectiveness and efficiency of the health care system.
5. Demonstrated aptitude for clinical leadership which is evidenced by:
