Fixed Term up to 1.0 FTE Staff Specialist or Visiting Medical Officer
Department Older Persons Mental Health
Applications are invited from suitably qualified medical practitioners for the above position(s) in the Western Sydney Local Health District (WSLHD). This position will be located within the WSLHD Mental Health Service in the Department Older Persons Mental Health at Blacktown Hospital.
The position will be for a period until the 31 December 2025.
Successful applicants will work as part of a well-established team, with peer to peer support, and opportunities for personal and professional development. There are opportunities for a variety of roles: supervision, consultation, teaching and research. Successful applicants will provide admitting, consultative, procedural, outpatient and on-call services within the specialty as determined and required by the District.
Applicants expecting to be awarded their Fellowship within six months, may be considered. If successful, the applicant may not be subsequently eligible to commence their appointment until after the relevant qualifications and requirements are formally completed.
Essential Requirements for Appointment
1. Possess or be eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia and Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists or equivalent as provided for in the Staff Specialists (State) Award/ Health Insurance Act 1997. Must have Australian Citizenship or Permanent Australian Residency. Must hold a current NSW Environment Protection Authority license (if applicable).
2. Sound clinical knowledge in Old Age Psychiatry and comprehensive mental health service provision demonstrated through successful clinical practice in an environment appropriate to the requirements of the position with experience in Community Mental Health.
3. Sound knowledge of principles of Recovery based clinical practice and integrated Mental Health Care. Demonstrated skills and attitudes appropriate for practice as a Senior Medical Practitioner including:
a. High level interpersonal and communication skills.
b. Demonstrated ability working within a multidisciplinary team.
c. Experience and involvement in quality assurance activities and evidence-based best practice.
d. Demonstrated commitment to teaching and supervision.
4. Familiarity with research concepts and commitment to support basic, applied or clinical research within the Department.
5. Experience in community and old age psychiatry. Certificate in Old Age Psychiatry is desirable.
Conditions of appointment are in accordance with the Staff Specialists (State) Award/ Health Services Act 1997 and Public Hospitals (Visiting Medical Officers Sessional Contracts) Determination 2014.

4. Demonstrated ability to manage time and resources efficiently and contributing to the effectiveness and efficiency of the health care system.
5. Demonstrated aptitude for clinical leadership which is evidenced by:

o Capacity to maintain personal integrity, tolerate stress and demonstrate resilience.

7. Demonstrated commitment to Education, Training and Research, as applicable to the position.
