Where you'll be working
Western Sydney Local Health District (WSLHD) is responsible for providing primary and secondary health care for people living in the Auburn, Blacktown, and The Hills Shire, Holroyd and Parramatta Local Government Areas (LGAs) and tertiary care to residents of the Greater Western Region. What you'll be doing
The WSLHD Animal Facilities are utilised to enable medical and scientific research.  Animal Technicians provide and ensure the care, husbandry, welfare and breeding management of all animal species held and bred at the facilities per the NHMRC Australian code for the care and used of animals for scientific purposes 8th Ed. 2013 (updated 2021) and the Animal Research Act 1985 and Regulation 2021.

Please note: To be eligible for permanent appointment to a position in NSW Health, you must have an Australian citizenship or permanent Australian residency.

Selection Criteria:

  1. Qualifications in Animal Technology (TAFE Cert III or higher) or animal related field (Bachelor of Animal Science) or demonstrated knowledge and understanding of animal research regulatory requirements (Animal Research Act, NHMRC Code and OGTR Guidelines).
  2. Familiarity and experience with the husbandry of non-rodent species (sheep and pigs) used in research.
  3. Demonstrated high quality record keeping skills and attention to detail.
  4. Proven good verbal and interpersonal skills.
  5. Experience with common animal research procedures.
  6. A dedicated commitment to animal welfare.
  7. Availability to work on weekends if required.
