The role:
Start your midwifery career in a service where you’ll feel supported, valued, and part of a strong, collaborative team from day one.
At John Hunter Hospital, our graduate program is designed to nurture your confidence and help you transition smoothly into practice. As a new graduate midwife, you’ll be welcomed into a team that genuinely invests in your growth—where learning is encouraged, questions are supported, and no one works in isolation.
You’ll rotate through key areas of maternity services, including antenatal clinic, birth suite, postnatal care, and high-risk antenatal care. This provides you with a well-rounded experience across the maternity journey, allowing you to build strong clinical skills in a supportive and structured environment.
What truly sets this program apart is the staff you'll be working with on a day to day basis. You’ll work alongside experienced and approachable midwives, managers and Team Leaders who are committed to guiding and mentoring you throughout your journey. Dedicated education teams in each area provide hands-on teaching and practical, bedside learning tailored to your needs. You’ll also benefit from regular clinical supervision, giving you protected time to reflect, build confidence, and further develop your skills in a safe and supportive space.
If you’re looking for a graduate year where teamwork, encouragement, and professional growth are at the heart of everything, John Hunter Hospital is the perfect place to begin your midwifery career.
