About the Opportunity
A vacancy exists at the Brain Injury Rehabilitation Unit (BIRU) for a highly motivated Occupational Therapist with appropriate knowledge and skills to join our friendly and supportive team.

This position leads the team providing vocational rehabilitation as a part of the Brain Injury Rehabilitation Unit, Liverpool. The team includes occupational therapists specialising in vocational rehabilitation and driving training as well as a rehabilitation tradesperson.

 

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Experience working in vocational rehabilitation.
  • Experience with the cognitive and behavioural sequelae of traumatic and acquired brain injury.
  • Experience managing a team.

 

This is an opportunity that could be full time or part time and suit someone returning to the workforce, or looking for a change into public health.

 

What You'll be Doing
The position requires a high level of clinical skill, leadership and supervision expertise. It requires the incumbent to be highly skilled in occupational therapy, with a well-developed knowledge of the roles of different disciplines within the multidisciplinary team; to have the ability to make critical clinical and administrative decisions independently and as part of the team; and to be well informed and dynamic in service planning, development and education to ensure best practice in occupational therapy.

Core responsibilities of this position include: coordination and implementation of quality occupational therapy services to patients including assessment, treatment and discharge planning; organisation and implementation of supervision and support processes to occupational therapists and technical assistants; consultation to therapists within South Western Sydney Local Health District, and other services state wide regarding the management of patients. Organisation and coordination of team based service development, quality improvement and best practice development; human resource management including recruitment, coordination of leave and courses.

 

Where You'll Be Working 

  • Liverpool Hospital, founded in 1813, is the major health service for south-western Sydney, providing services to the local government area of Liverpool City Council as well as district services to residents and visitors in the area. It also provides a range of state-wide services in areas such as critical care and trauma, neonatal intensive care and brain injury rehabilitation.
  • The Hospital provides a health service of international standing, with 23 operating theatres, capacity for 877 beds, diagnostic and imaging services, emergency and trauma care, maternity, paediatric, cancer care, mental health, ambulatory care, allied health and medical and surgical services from birth to aged care.
  • Liverpool Hospital is currently undergoing a major redevelopment. The $790 million Liverpool Health and Academic Precinct (LHAP) project will provide enhanced facilities and an increased capacity to meet future significant population growth for South Western Sydney.
  • Liverpool Hospital is a principal referral and teaching Hospital of the University of NSW and the Western Sydney University and also welcome students from over 20 universities and colleges.
  • Located in the heart of Liverpool City, the hospital is close to public transport, shopping centres and eateries.

  1. Recognised Degree in Occupational Therapy or other qualification deemed appropriate by the employer,  with registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA)
  2. Extensive advanced level of clinical knowledge and expertise of a wide range of conditions in Occupational Therapy
  3. Demonstrated excellent verbal and written communication skills including interpersonal, negotiation and conflict resolution skills and computer literacy in a range of programs
  4. Demonstrated skills and experience in the identification and implementation of evidence based practice and/or development of treatment guidelines
  5. Demonstrated experience leading the planning and implementation of quality improvement, research and service development activities
  6. Excellent time management skills and ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
  7. Demonstrated experience in providing clinical leadership, consultation, supervision and education for staff and/or students and external parties
  8. Must possess a valid Australian Drivers Licence (excluding learner driver's licences). If not already in possession, a NSW Drivers Licence must be obtained within 3 months of appointment.
