About the Role
You will be working at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital. It is one of the nation’s most respected hospitals, with a distinguished history of serving the health needs of local, statewide, national and international communities.
The Institute of Precision Medicine & Bioinformatics at Sydney Local Health District is seeking a Hospital Scientist to join a team in testing actionable mutations in solid tumours and supporting precision cancer treatment. The team includes Specialists, Scientists and technicians. The service utilises a range of genomic testing technologies to identify driver mutations in solid tumours. The Scientist should be experienced in FFPE DNA testing. Additional duties include participation in other laboratory-based initiatives to promote precision medicine within Sydney Local Health District.
Applicants for this position must have a thorough and practical understanding of DNA genomic testing, excellent communication skills and demonstrated leadership in laboratory science. They should be able to work individually as well as part of a team. An understanding of working in a NATA accredited medical testing environment would be desirable. The successful applicant will be responsible for delivering laboratory activities that comply with operational procedures, quality standards and continual process improvement. Experience in FFPE-based testing and in silico annotation would be considered an important skill for this position.

Ideal Candidate
- Bachelor or higher degree in Science/Biomedical Science or an equivalent qualification from a recognised tertiary institution.
- Ability to work in a team and having the capacity to deliver results within specified time frames. Experience in knowing when to seek advice from more senior colleagues.
- Experience in a Medical Genomics laboratory and/or demonstrated knowledge in cancer somatic mutation testing with familiarity in common molecular genetics techniques, including FFPE-based testing and in silico annotation.
