About the Role
The successful applicant will possess expertise across the full spectrum of Paediatric Radiology, including neonatal and paediatric CT and MRI, paediatric ultrasound, plain radiography, and fluoroscopic procedures performed both during routine hours and as part of an after-hours roster. The role involves providing high-level diagnostic input into the care of infants, children, and adolescents in close collaboration with referring clinicians and specialist paediatric teams. The successful candidate will participate in and lead relevant Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) meetings, including those in general paediatrics, neonatology, paediatric surgery, oncology, and other paediatric subspecialties. Participation in the on-call roster for Sydney Children’s Hospital is required, covering emergency and inpatient paediatric imaging after hours. There may also be occasional opportunities to work in adult subspecialty areas such as Emergency Radiology, Body Imaging, Neuroradiology, or Musculoskeletal Imaging, if desired.
The successful applicant will:
1. Possess expertise across the full spectrum of Paediatric Radiology, including:
- Neonatal and paediatric CT and MRI
- Paediatric ultrasound
- Plain radiography
- Fluoroscopic procedures, performed during routine hours and on an after-hours roster
2. Provide high-level diagnostic input into the care of infants, children, and adolescents in collaboration with referring clinicians and specialist paediatric teams.
3. Participate in and lead Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) meetings relevant to paediatric care, including:
- General paediatrics
- Neonatology
- Paediatric surgery
- Oncology and other subspecialty services as appropriate
4. Participate in the on-call roster for Sydney Children's Hospital, covering paediatric emergency and inpatient imaging requirements after hours.
5. May also be occasionally rostered to adult subspecialty areas such as Emergency (ED) Radiology, Body Imaging, Neuroradiology, or Musculoskeletal Imaging, if desired.
Teaching, Training & Research
- Take an active role in teaching and mentoring Medical Imaging Registrars and Fellows, particularly in paediatric radiology.
- Participate in departmental research, quality assurance activities, and continuing professional development (CPD).
- Foster collaboration across paediatric imaging subspecialties and contribute to service improvement initiatives
Desirable Attributes
- Additional expertise in Neonatal Imaging, Paediatric Oncology Imaging, or Paediatric Neuroradiology.
- Basic or advanced Paediatric Interventional Radiology (IR) skills would be of benefit, but are not essential.
- Involvement in academic or translational research.
- Participation in radiology leadership, service design, or innovation in paediatric imaging practice.

- Registration or eligible for registration with Medical Board of Australia (AHPRA). Candidate to provide AHPRA Registration Number on application.
- Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Radiologists (RANZCR) and/or equivalent specialist recognition as provided for by the Health Insurance Act 1973 and the relevant Award/Determination, and demonstrated subspecialty training in Paediatric Radiology.
- Evidence of continuing medical education and self-monitoring/audit practices consistent with the scope of practice requirements of the position.
Proven capacity and/or experience in the provision of effective high quality service in acute and elective paediatric imaging across routine, on-call and emergency settings, with demonstrated advanced competency in paediatric imaging modalities, including fluoroscopy, demonstrated through successful clinical practice in an environment appropriate to the requirements of the position including evidence of participation in quality improvement activities relevant to the specialty.
- Demonstrated commitment to teaching with experience in teaching both undergraduate and post graduate students and other staff of the hospital.
- Demonstrate the skills and attitudes appropriate as a senior Medical Practitioner including modelling a high standard of professional behaviour to junior medical staff.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively and harmoniously with medical and other health services colleagues as part of a multi-disciplinary health care team and demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with patients, colleagues, and staff and to work as an effective member of the paediatric medical and surgical teams across multiple sites. Demonstrated commitment to provision of a high standard of clinical care in the public sector setting.
- Demonstrated experience in and commitment to research relevant to the role and needs of the Department.
