The Role

The Clinical Coding Manager is responsible for the daily operation management, leadership and organisation of the Clinical Coding Team, and for ensuring timely and accurate coding in accordance with the NSW and National coding regulations. and grouping of inpatient episodes for Activity Based Funding purposes. 

This position works with the Head of Clinical Coding, Clinical Coding Auditor/ Educator Manager, and their respective teams, to ensure SESLHD meets its clinical coding performance in relation to NSW Ministry of Health (MOH) coding submission deadlines.

Selection Criteria:
  1. Relevant tertiary qualifications in Bachelor of Applied Science Health Information Management or relevant equivalent work experience, or a combination of study and work experience.
  2. Demonstrated experience in Clinical Coding at a complex level using ICD-10-AM with a demonstrated understanding of the relationship between Clinical Coding, Casemix, DRG classification systems and Activity Based Funding models.
  3. Ability to interpret, monitor and evaluate policies, procedures and coding guidelines.
  4. Proven effective management and organisational skills, including the ability to coach and education, as well as lead and maintain effective teams to meet pre-determined targets and deadlines.
  5. Demonstrated excellent written and verbal communication skills and ability to develop and run complex coding reports for data integrity and the monitoring of Coding functions.
  6. Demonstrated skill in the use of computerised PAS and record control systems, 3M Codefinder software and a sound knowledge of Microsoft Office Products.
  7. Strong interpersonal skills and customer service orientation demonstrating motivational, and advocacy capabilities.
