SESLHD’s Sexual Health and Blood Borne Virus Services (SHBBV) provides leadership, innovation and research in the sector. Services within SHBBV are involved in the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of Sexually Transmissible Infections (STIs) and blood borne viruses at an individual and population level within SESLHD, as well as four statewide services. 

Across these services, care is provided via fixed locations and outreach networks to a client base of approximately 28,000 individuals.  SHBBV has highly skilled and diverse staff including nursing, medical, allied health, health promotion, administrative and technical staff. It is the largest SHBBV service in Australia. 

Sydney Sexual Health Centre (SSHC) is one of three facilities within the Sexual Health Services (SHS) which also includes, The Albion Centre and Short Street Centre. These services provide free testing, treatment and management to people effected be sexually transmitted infections, blood born viruses, as well as providing transgender / gender diverse health care.

What you'll be doing

A key focus of the Clinical Nurse Educator (CNE) position is to provide ongoing educational requirements, including coordination, delivery and evaluation of educational initiatives to nursing personnel. This includes addressing orientation and transitional support for new nursing staff, postgraduate, casual nurses and nursing students.


The role will work in collaboration with local interdisciplinary teams to ensure a streamlined approach to staff education that supports client centered delivery of care across the three Sexual Health facilities, with a specific emphasis on primary healthcare.

The CNE will offer clinical supervision within everyday practice settings, aligning with the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Council (ANMC) Decision Making Frameworks for Nurses and Midwives. To maintain proficiency and gain firsthand insight into service delivery within the SHS clinical context. The CNE will also engage in clinical work to ensure clinical skills are maintained and current.

While this role is primarily based at SSCH, cross-site educational support with be undertaken by the CNE with some travel to the other 2 sites as required.

Selection Criteria

  1. Current registration as a Registered Nurse/Midwife with the Nursing & Midwifery Board of Australia.
  2. Holds relevant clinical or education post registration qualifications or such education and current clinical experience in sexual health, blood borne viruses and transgender health care.
  3. Able to demonstrate effective interpersonal, communication, organisation and time management skills, including computer literacy and an understanding of information systems.
  4. Understanding of teaching and learning in the health care environment (adult learning principles)
  5. Demonstrated clinical teaching and facilitation skills.
  6. Demonstrated knowledge of competency attainment and assessment.
  7. Demonstrated understanding of the issues and needs of priority populations attending Sexual Health Services.
  8. Current drivers licence (or a willingness to travel in accordance with the demands of the position)
