Your new role:

The Clinical Nurse Consultant is a Registered Nurse who has responsibility for ensuring the highest standard of care is achieved for Cancer Patients both within the Inpatient and Outpatient Setting. Key components of the role include assisting both cancer patients and their carers to navigate their treatment pathways, through the provision of education and emotional support in conjunction with the Cancer Services Psychosocial and Palliative Care teams.
The CNC Oncology is responsible for the coordination of all inpatient chemotherapy at TSH in both the malignant and non- malignant settings, identification of Oncology emergencies, and facilitates the direct admission of patients for symptomatic review. This role provides education in relation to Cytotoxic Safe Handling and Central Venous Access Device Management and is often consulted for venous access review and central line clinical management concerns. The CNC will also undertake a lead role in the organisation for blood and blood products in relation to National Safety and Quality Health Standards (NSQHS) Blood Management Standard 7; including the provision of nursing consultancy to patients/clients, carers and other   health professionals supporting the safe and appropriate use of blood and blood products, and the minimisation of inappropriate usage, associated costs, wastage and blood safety.  
Clinical Nurse Consultant Grade 2 means: A registered nurse appointed as such to a position approved by the Health Service, who has at least 5 years full time equivalent post registration experience, with at least 3 years full time equivalent experience in the specialty field.  In addition the employee must have approved post graduate nursing/midwifery qualifications relevant to the field in which he/she is appointed to or such other qualifications or experience deemed appropriate by the Health Service.  An employer may also require a higher qualification in the specialist nursing field where such qualification is considered essential for the performance of the individual position.

Established in 1958, The Sutherland Hospital campus offers a comprehensive range of inpatient and community services to around 226,000 residents of the Sutherland Shire, colloquially known as ‘The Shire’. Part of the  South Eastern Sydney Local Health District (SESLHD) and located in Caringbah, the hospital campus is close to some of Sydney’s great beaches, restaurants, bars and cafes at Cronulla and is close to the beautiful Royal National Park. At Miranda, just a short walk away from the hospital, there is a Westfield Shopping Centre and cinema complex.

The ideal candidate will have: 

  1. Current unrestricted registration as a Registered Nurse with the Nursing & Midwifery Board of Australia, and current NSW Drivers Licence and willingness to utilise as required for the position.
  2. Minimum five years full time equivalent post qualification experience, with at least three years full time equivalent experience in the specialty field and post graduate qualifications relevant to the field of practice
  3. Demonstrated effective communication and inter-personal skills across a variety of mediums and an understanding of the practice development framework.
  4. Proven ability to implement changes and develop direction in clinical practice by the utilisation of evidence based research.
  5. Demonstrated skills in strategic and clinical service planning including an understanding of organisational behaviour, change management and cultural change processes.
  6. Demonstrated skills in clinical teaching, competency in the use of contemporary information systems and experience in the development of specialty education programs.
  7. Demonstrated clinical expertise in client-centred consultancy with the ability to work independently and current Antineoplastic Drug Administration accreditation.
