Where you'll be working:
Gurung Unit is the Paediatric ward and Special Care Nursery at Sutherland Hospital.
The Paediatric Ward is a level 4, and has 10 beds, with capacity to surge to 18, and there is a level 3 Special Care Nursery, with 4 neonatal beds.
Gurung provides care for children and their families from birth to 16 years. The service manages a broad range of acute and chronic paediatric conditions, including general medical, surgical, orthopaedic, gastroenterology, respiratory and neurology presentations. Gurung also has the Children's Acute Review Service (CARS) which provides continuity of care to patients in the community. Our patients are cared for by a multidisciplinary team of Nurses, Paediatricians and relevant specialist teams.
The Sutherland Hospital is proudly accredited as a Baby Friendly Health Initiative facility.

The ideal candidate will have:
- Current registration as a Registered Nurse with the Nursing & Midwifery Board of Australia.
- Demonstrated high level written and verbal communication, interpersonal skills and the ability to identify key messages, issues and concerns when communicating with others.
- Demonstrated ability to proactively engage with patients/clients to enhance service delivery and to guide others in providing service excellence.
- Demonstrated ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team and apply professional and ethical boundaries when dealing with complex situations.
- Basic computer skills and proven ability to use health information systems.
- Detailed knowledge and understanding of risk management, safety and quality principles and the role of the Registered Nurse in applying these principles.
Demonstrated recent extensive post registration experience in an acute care setting.
