The Emergency Department at Sydney Children's Hospital, Randwick are seeking permanent Staff Specialists (Up to 1.0 FTE, 40 hours per week) to join their team.
What you'll be doing
The Senior Medical Officer (SMO) will ensure that:
- Clinical services in the Emergency Department are focused on delivering excellent clinical care to children and supporting their families as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
- On-call and recall roster is maintained and the Emergency team functions in line with wider organisational plans.
- Currently the SMO workforce is Staff Specialist only, without any Visiting Medical Officers (VMO), and so out-of hours shifts are shared pro-rata.
- Research and teaching, review and improvement activities are undertaken and focused on the area of paediatric emergency medicine.
- They abide by the Code of Conduct, and participate in annual performance reviews.

Please note: To be eligible for permanent appointment to a position in NSW Health, you must have an Australian citizenship or permanent Australian residency.
- Eligible for medical registration in Australia and hold Fellowship of RACP or ACEM or equivalent, AND - Completion of Paediatric Emergency Medicine training accredited by RACP or ACEM, or equivalent.
- Demonstrated recent clinical experience as a senior clinician in the care of critically ill children.
- Current APLS Certificate or equivalent, or an active Instructor with APLS or equivalent.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team and provide leadership of a team.
- Demonstrated effective clinical communication through the use of information technology and written, verbal and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated commitment to teaching, continuing education, research and quality improvement.
- Availability to participate in an on-call roster and to respond on site within a reasonable time.
The preferred applicant may be considered for the award of a conjoint academic title at a level commensurate with his/her qualifications and experience. The award of the academic title will also confer membership upon the appointee of the relevant University. The academic title will be held for the duration of The Sydney Children's Hospitals Network appointment. No remuneration is attached to the University appointment. The appointee will be responsible to the University for academic matters and to The Sydney Children's Hospitals Network for clinical matters.
