Art Therapist Level 3, Mental Health – Part-time Permanent 22 hours per week
 
Applications are sought for a senior Art Therapist in Hall Ward Acute Mental Health Unit, Children’s Hospital, Westmead.
 
The primary focus of this position is to provide comprehensive and specialist evidence-based art therapy services to children, young people and where appropriate their families/carers accessing specialist mental health care.  The position takes a leadership role in the development and provision of creative arts interventions, taking into account the individual and group needs of consumers with mental illness.

What you'll be doing
The primary focus of this position is to provide comprehensive and specialist evidence based Art Therapy services to children, young people and where appropriate their families/carers accessing specialist mental health care. This includes comprehensive assessments, specialist expressive arts interventions and group work. The Art Therapist works as an integral member of a multidisciplinary team.
 
The senior Art Therapist is required to play a key role in service development and continuous quality improvement to ensure the clinical needs of children and young people are met. The position takes a leadership role in the development and provision of creative arts interventions taking into account the individual and group needs of consumers with mental illness. The Art Therapist provides a consultative role within their specialty to key stakeholders.
  1. Registration as an Art Therapist with the Australian, New Zealand and Asian Creative Arts Therapists Association (ANZACATA) and significant post graduate experience in Art therapy practice with children and young people.
  2. Substantial post graduate experience in art therapy practice with children and families in a mental health context.
  3. Demonstrated experience and expertise in the implementation and evaluation of art therapy interventions including individual and group interventions.
  4. Demonstrated ability to work independently problem-solve and apply professional and ethical boundaries when working with clinical complexity.
  5. Demonstrated ability to lead planning and evaluation quality improvement and/or research activities.
  6. Demonstrated skills and experience in clinical supervision, professional education activities.
  7. Excellent demonstrated interpersonal and written communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team.
