Kids Rehab provides services to children and young people with a range of complex rehabilitation needs, including Brain Injury, Cerebral Palsy & Movement Disorders, Limb Difference, Spinal Cord Injury/Disease, Spina Bifida and Complex Musculoskeletal Disorders. The Sport & Recreation Officer is responsible for supporting children and young people to access meaningful, inclusive sport and recreation opportunities within their community, aligned with their individual goals and interests.
This role focuses on enabling “return to play” participation, supporting children to re-engage in recreational activities as part of their rehabilitation journey. The Sport & Recreation Officer is integral to strengthening links between Kids Rehab and community sport and recreation services. We are seeking an individual who is interested in health, sport, recreation and participation for children with complex disability and rehabilitation needs.
A background (by way of studies or experience) is preferred for the role. Some travel within Sydney may be required for connection with community providers and enhancing the engagement of children in these programs.
What you'll be doing
- Kids Rehab provides services to children and young people with a range of complex rehabilitation needs, including Brain Injury, Cerebral Palsy & Movement Disorders, Limb Difference, Spinal Cord Injury/Disease, Spina Bifida and Complex Musculoskeletal Disorders.
- The Sport & Recreation Officer is responsible for supporting children and young people to access meaningful, inclusive sport and recreation opportunities within their community, aligned with their individual goals and interests. This role focuses on enabling “return to play” participation, supporting children to re-engage in recreational activities as part of their rehabilitation journey.
- Working closely with outpatient clinics and the Ambulatory Rehabilitation Program, the position receives referrals from the multidisciplinary team and engages directly with children and families to identify appropriate opportunities. The role facilitates connections with community providers, supports initial engagement (e.g. trial sessions), and provides follow-up to promote sustained participation.
- The Sport & Recreation Officer is integral to strengthening links between Kids Rehab and community sport and recreation services.

Responses to the questions below:
- Tertiary degree in Public Health, Health Promotion, Health Science, Education, Social Science, or a related field, or relevant industry experience supporting children or young people with disability to participate in sport, recreation or community-based activities.
- Experience building partnerships with community organisations and facilitating access to services.
- Demonstrated understanding of family-centred practice in a health setting.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary environment.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage children, families, clinicians and external providers.
- Effective organisational and administrative skills, including documentation and data collection.
