The Kids Cancer Centre (KCC) at Sydney Children's Hospital, Randwick are seeking a temporary full-time (1.0 FTE, 40 hours per week) Staff Specialist, with a focus on Paediatric Haematology. The position is anticipated to commence in June 2025 for a period of 12 months. 

What you'll be doing
The Staff Specialist Haematology will work within the Kids Cancer Centre, Sydney Children's Hospital Randwick to deliver clinical services and research.


The Kids Cancer Centre is a large multi-disciplinary department within SCH with internationally respected programs in translational medicine, clinical trials, bone marrow transplantation and neuro-oncology care.


This position will ensure that clinical services are focused on delivering excellent and safe care to children and their families. The position will also be focused on service delivery, research and teaching in the area of paediatric Haematology.

Provide excellent clinical services to children and their families as part of a multi-disciplinary team. 


Participate in review and improvement activities, as well as training and education of staff.


Abide by the hospital code of conduct and participate in annual performance reviews for clinical services in accordance with the Staff Specialist (State) Award.

  1. Eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia as a Specialist in Haematology, and/or overseas trained specialist pathways. FRACP/FRCPA or Advanced Training in Clinical and Laboratory Paediatric Haematology or equivalent.
  2. Experience as a Haematology consultant or consultant level, with demonstrated ability to train and supervise junior staff.
  3. Postgraduate experience in the management of children with non-malignant haematological disorders, with the ability to independently work in a paediatric setting. Experience in paediatric malignant haematology and BMT desirable.
  4. Demonstrated commitment to teaching, continuing education and quality improvement, with a proven track record in research in the field of paediatric Haematology.
  5. Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team and provide leadership of a team
  6. Excellent communication skills, including the ability to express professional opinions while dealing compassionately with distressed patients and families.
  7. Availability to participate in an on-call roster and to respond on site within a reasonable time.

The preferred applicant may be considered for the award of a conjoint academic title at a level commensurate with his/her qualifications and experience.  The award of the academic title will also confer membership upon the appointee of the relevant University.  The academic title will be held for the duration of The Sydney Children's Hospitals Network appointment.  No remuneration is attached to the University appointment.  The appointee will be responsible to the University for academic matters and to The Sydney Children's Hospitals Network for clinical matters.
