Rural Generalist Trainee – Mudgee Health Service

This position offers 12 months experience in Rural Generalist Medicine in a busy procedural facilitiy. This post would suit Rural Generalist Trainees looking for experience in a busy regional trauma centre and for trainees wishing to gain experience in the management of acute general medical, emergency medicine and critically unwell patients. Trainees will be given responsibilities and opportunities for autonomous practice commensurate with their experience.

Mudgee Health Service provides inpatient and community-based services as part of Western NSW Local Health District. The Facility has an emergency department with a doctor available to attend onsite. Virtual care is available 24/7 through the use of our vCare camera system ensuring all unwell patients can receive emergency care after hours.

The hospital has a general ward that caters for Medical and Surgical patients with a capacity as well as a Maternity Unit providing care for well women, higher risk pregnancies are referred to Dubbo Health Service or other appropriate facilities according to patient needs. There are two Operating theatres. Theatres operate an average of three days per week with on call services provided 24/7 for emergency obstetrics.

Mudgee Health Service provides Acute and Sub-Acute Inpatient services which include:

Medical, Surgical, Rehabilitation, Maternity, Palliative Care, Renal Dialysis, Chemotherapy, Medical Imaging and Ambulatory care.

The township of Mudgee has a population of approximately 11,000 residents and is 183 kilometres northeast of Orange and 126 kilometres southeast of Dubbo.

Mudgee is a popular tourist town known for its food, wine, picturesque countryside, and historic buildings.  The region also has several coal mines approximately 30 minutes from town that provide a large number of jobs to the local community.

Mudgee is part of the Mid-Western Regional Local Government Area, which also includes Gulgong and Rylstone. The projected population for Mudgee and surrounds is expected to increase by 8.4% from 2023 to 2033.

Where you’ll be working

·         MBBS or equivalent, currently registered with the Medical Board of Australia in an appropriate registration category.

·         Valid NSW Working with Children check.

·         Cleared National Police check.

·         Aged Care Check for Australian Government funded positions.

·         To be employed by NSW Health you are required to provide evidence of vaccination to comply with the NSW Health Occupational Assessment, Screening & Vaccination against Specified Infectious Diseases Policy, this includes any amendments made from time to time.

·         You must take all reasonable care for yourself and others and comply with any reasonable instruction, policies and procedures relating to work health safety and wellbeing.

1.       Qualifications and experience commensurate with the Essential Requirements for the role.

2.       Completion of at least three years’ post graduate experience in public hospital service (or equivalent).

3.       Demonstrated interest in a career in Rural Generalism.

4.       Enrolled with the Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine.

5.       Willingness to undertake training in a rural setting.

6.       Willingness to complete Advanced Skills in keeping with ACRRM requirements.
