What you'll be doing
 
Rehab2Kids at Sydney Children’s Hospital is seeking an Allied Health Assistant (AHA) to join our team as a Community Linker. Our department is a dynamic, multi-disciplinary service, bringing together allied health, nursing, medical clinicians and support staff who work in partnership to support children with complex needs, including acquired brain injury, spinal cord injury, cerebral palsy, and other neurological conditions.


The Community Linker plays a key role in the EPIC-ND study, a multisite randomised controlled trial evaluating a social prescribing program for children with neurodisability and their parents/carers.


The program identifies unmet social needs—such as housing, transport, food, bills, government benefits, schooling, or other supports—and assists families in accessing appropriate services.


In this role, you will provide practical, hands-on support to families, including:

  • Navigating health and social services

     

  • Making referrals and bookings

  • Completing forms and assisting with appointments

  • This is a 20-hour per week position, worked over three days between Monday and Thursday, with some flexibility to suit the candidate’s availability.

About You
We’re looking for someone who:

  • Allied Health Assistant Certificate 4 or equivalent professional qualifications or working towards.
  • Understanding WH&S requirements of the role and physical ability to move / transfer clients & equipment safely
  • Experience working with children and families. Experience working with people with cognitive behavioural and or physical disability in a hospital or healthcare environment
  • Ability to work independently and within a team and ability to work under instruction. Please demonstrate your skills and experience in these.
  • Proven ability to prioritise number of competing demands/tasks & manage time effectively & efficiently. Please demonstrate your skills and experience in these.

·         Completion or enrolment in Certificate IV Allied Health Assistant or working towards similar or equivalent certifications.

·         Demonstrated ability to work both independently and cooperatively with health professionals in a  multidisciplinary team environment.

·         Ability to prioritise workload, meet deadlines and complete activities (including ability to work within scope of practice and seek assistance when required) as delegated by supervising Allied Health Professional.

·         Experience working with children and their families within a healthcare setting or in an alternative capacity, including priority populations (e.g. children with chronic and/or complex care needs, culturally and linguistically diverse families, families experiencing socioeconomic disadvantage)
