About the opportunity

Tumut District Hospital is seeking a permanent part time Medical Laboratory Assistant – Collections / Data Entry to join our pathology team. The role involves specimen collection and accurate data entry while providing professional, patient‑focused service. This is a great opportunity to work locally in a supportive hospital environment and contribute to quality healthcare.



What you'll be doing

Contribute to a high-quality pathology service. Perform a range of pre analytical duties including pathology collections, receiving and triaging of specimens, patient registration and request entry, specimen processing and preparation for transport or delivery to laboratories for timely accurate diagnostic testing.

  1. Certificate III in Pathology, Pathology Collections or Pathology Assistance, and/or previous experience in a pathology setting or a demonstrated ability to learn all aspects of the pre analytical environment, including phlebotomy.
  2. Demonstrated ability to manage tasks in a demanding environment where there are competing priorities and time constraints.
  3. Ability to communicate effectively with colleagues and customers, internal and external.
  4. Demonstrated problem solving and analytical skills combined with the ability to investigate and resolve general issues.
  5. Proficient computer skills including high attention to detail and data accuracy and the ability to operate and maintain pre analytical equipment.
  6. Demonstrated understanding of confidentiality and proper handling of sensitive information in a laboratory setting, following relevant legislation, policies, and requirements.
  7. Willingness to participate in a 24/7 rotating shift roster, including weekends, public holidays, and night shifts
  8. Current NSW C‑Class driver’s licence (P1 or P2 accepted) is required. Interstate C‑Class licence holders must obtain an NSW C‑Class licence within three months of appointment. Learner licences are not accepted. Alternatively, applicants must have the capacity to travel to any site or location within the operational area for a shift as required.
