What you'll be doing
The Student Unit Supervisor leads and coordinates high quality clinical education for Occupational Therapist (OT) students. They ensure safe practice, effective supervision, and a positive learning environment. The role supports both students and supervising clinicians, maintains compliance with professional, documentation and WHS standards, and contributes to ongoing service quality, staff development and continuous improvement across the department.
Planning, provision & evaluation of clinical education, teaching & supervision to occupational therapy students on clinical placement from Occupational Therapy Schools at:
- University of Sydney
- Western Sydney University
- University of Newcastle
- Charles Sturt University
- Australian Catholic University
- University of Notre Dame
Development & coordination of the professional development programme for the Occupational Therapy Department in line with identified learning needs.
Assisting in the development of clinical resource & evidence based practice information to guide professional practice.
In conjunction with the Department Head & relevant Team Seniors; and in line with identified gaps in service provision, is responsible for planning & development of novel & innovative clinical programmes to meet the needs of clients with high complexity.
Provision of complex and specialist occupational therapy clinical work / advice using high level of professional knowledge & judgement for the management of patients with high complexity needs.
Provide any other appropriate professional duties as directed by the Head of Department.
People of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander background are encouraged to apply.
Candidates will need to meet the following criteria:
- Full registration with the Occupational Therapy Board of Australia. Recent, extensive and varied postgraduate clinical experience as a level 2 Occupational Therapist or above.
- Demonstrated experience in, leading, initiating, mentoring, completing and presenting quality improvement activities, research and service evaluation process. Extensive experience in clinical teaching and supervision for students and allied health staff. Understanding of adult learning theories.
- Recent post graduate experience in a broad variety of OT settings including both acute care & community, including experience in management of complex cases.
- Extensive experience in tailoring verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills for internal and external service providers. Demonstrated proficient computer literacy and ability to confidently use health information systems. Proven ability to work within multidisciplinary teams & clinical networks.
Extended skills and specialised knowledge in the provision of current clinical Occupational Therapy practice. Ability to take responsibility for the delivery of evidence-based practice for consumers, carers and families.
