Where you'll be working
 Macquarie Hospital is a 195 bed facility comprised of 9 separate units, 8 of which are medium to long stay. The primary purpose of the position is for the clinical management and leadership of the Adult Rehabilitation stream which is comprised of Manning unit, Tarban unit, Bridgeview House and Cottages. 
 

About the Role
Manning unit assists consumers to gain insight into their mental illness and to maximise their level of functioning, thus improving quality of life. The unit provides a structured program for consumers requiring assistance with basic living skills with the aim of moving consumers, where possible, to a less restrictive environment. Consumers attend unit and Hospital Rehabilitation Programs for vocational/ pre-vocational, educational and leisure activities, and have access to the local community. A number of these consumers have been identified as in scope for the Pathways to Community Living Initiative (PCLI) programme and are working towards transition to community living. 
Tarban unit population consists of consumers who are longer stay and treatment resistant. Consumers who also have a history of behavioral disturbance and require the level of security a locked unit provides them. The unit can also a provide short term admission to assist the consumer's recovery prior to being transferred to a less restrictive environment. It can function as an admission unit for the locked units. 
Bridgeview House is the admission unit for the open, non-acute function of the hospital. The multidisciplinary team in partnership with consumers and their carers endeavour to promote better mental and physical health through the development of realistic consumer goals. 
Cottages provides domestic style accommodation with varying levels of independent living. The team's aim is to empower consumers to achieve their optimal level of functioning within a least restrictive environment and to encourage and support social inclusion. Consumers attend rehabilitation and vocational programmes (where appropriate) both on and off the campus. There is an expectation that consumers who are living in independent cottages will be discharged into the community when suitable accommodation is available. 
 
Participation in the on-call roster as directed by the Clinical Director. Human Resources management. Financial management and consideration of the hospital budget when prescribing and ordering tests/treatments. Show capacity for warmth, empathy and sensitivity whilst interacting with consumers. 
 
Purpose of the Position
You will provide clinical management and treatment of consumers under your care in a Northern Sydney Local Health District (NSLHD) facility or service. This care will be provided within the scope of practice endorsed by the NSLHD Medical and Dental Appointments Advisory Committee (MDAAC). 
Provision of clinical consultation services within NSLHD and contribution to the teaching and training of medical officers, students, graduates and other health care professionals and to research, evaluation and quality improvement activities. 


 

Selection Criteria

  1. MBBS or equivalent, currently registered or eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia. Applicants must have Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (FRANZCP) or be eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia as a Specialist Psychiatrist and/or overseas trained substantial specialist pathways. Applicants expecting to be awarded their FRANZCP within 3 months may be considered.
  2. Consistently demonstrates behaviours that reinforce the CORE Values of our organisation; Collaboration, Openness, Respect and Empowerment. Demonstrates these behaviours with all stakeholders; colleagues, direct reports, as well as our patients and consumers, and those that care for them.
  3. Demonstrated experience and high performance as a senior clinician in adult mental health rehabilitation, treating serious mental illness and working within a team to promote rehabilitation and recovery with a strong interest and/or qualifications in adult mental health rehabilitation.
  4. High level interpersonal and communication skills and demonstrated ability to lead and work within a multidisciplinary team environment
  5. Demonstrated clinical, diagnostic and technical skills commensurate with functioning as an independent Adult Rehabilitation Psychiatry Consultant
  6. Demonstrated participation in and commitment to undergraduate, postgraduate, interdisciplinary teaching and education, including research, quality improvement, patient safety and risk management
  7. Demonstrated experience in working with the NSW Mental Health Act (2007) and Guardianship Act and their applications, and understanding of and commitment to relevant Local Health District, Ministry of Health and National mental health priorities and plans.
  8. Preparedness to participate in any on-call service, including on-call rosters already existing or established and Current NSW Drivers Licence and the ability to drive.
