The PARVAN Medical and Forensic Director will lead and provide overall coordination and quality assurance of the medical and forensic components of the NSLHD Prevention and Response to Violence Abuse and Neglect (PARVAN) Service. This position will also provide specialised clinical support and advice to services throughout NSLHD, to assist in their prevention, identification and response to violence abuse and neglect.
The position will lead research, evaluation and quality improvement activities within the district to ensure the provision of integrated, holistic and client focused PARVAN services by a capable and confident workforce.
The position will provide clinical consultation, clinical management and treatment of patients in line with best and evidence based practice and within the scope of practice endorsed by the NSLHD Medical and Dental Appointments Advisory Committee.
The position will provide clinical consultation as required, as well as contribute to the teaching and training of students and staff in the clinical areas encompassed within PARVAN services.
Selection Criteria
- MBBS or equivalent, currently registered or eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia. Applicants must have Fellowship of a recognised Australasian Specialist College or recognition as a specialist by the Medical Board of Australia. Qualification in medical and forensic medicine (e.g. Graduate Certificate in Management of Sexual Assault from Education Centre Against Violence or equivalent).

- Demonstrated high level knowledge and expertise in the provision of integrated medical/ forensic responses, medical follow up and wellbeing consultations to victim survivors of domestic and family violence and sexual assault, including provision of ongoing training and support to examiners
- Proven ability to lead and maintain an integrated cohesive effective patient centred team.
- Demonstrated experience in research, strategic and service planning, models of care and policy development, program evaluation, change management, implementation and review and a demonstrated ability to be innovative and adapt to changing circumstances.
- Demonstrated excellent communication with an ability to build effective relationships with patients, staff and internal and external stakeholders.
- Demonstrated expertise in managing clinical incidents, complaints and grievances, managing and supervising medico-legal work, including review of Expert Witness Certificates, providing expert witness evidence and testimony in court, preparing examiners to provide evidence and testimony and debriefing examiners.
