Hours Per Week: up to 20 hours per week until 6 September 2026, up to 32 hours per week from 7 September 2026 to 15 October 2026 and up to 40 hours per week from 16 October 2026 to 30 June 2027

About the Role
Paediatrics at RNSH consists of emergency services provided in the designated Paediatric area of the Emergency Department, and acute in-patient, HITH, ambulatory care and out-patient services within the Child and Adolescent Unit. Royal North Shore Hospital usually sees >20,000/year Paediatric patients in the Emergency Department, about 15% require admission to the inpatient unit.
 
The successful applicant will join an enthusiastic team of multidisciplinary health professionals providing excellent clinical services in Paediatrics. The role will provide an interesting range of clinical, teaching and research opportunities. The successful applicant will participate in an on-call roster. The
successful applicant will also have special responsibilities for supervision and on-site teaching of Macquarie University medical students in addition to liaison with MQ university faculty staff.
 
 
Purpose of Position 
You will provide clinical management and consultation service to patients in the Department of Paediatrics, Division of Women's, Children's and Family Health and specialty and participate in an appropriate on-call roster for Royal North Shore Hospital. This care will be provided within the scope of practice endorsed by the NSLHD Medical and Dental Appointments Advisory Committee (MDAAC). 
  
The position will provide clinical consultation services within NSLHD and will contribute to the teaching and training of medical students, graduates and other health care professionals and to research, evaluation and quality improvement activities within NSLHD. 

This position is temporary with the possibility of extension based on performance, funding and need

Selection Criteria

  1. MBBS or equivalent, currently registered or eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia. Applicants must have Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP) or recognition as a specialist by the Medical Board of Australia. Applicants expecting to be awarded their Fellowship within 3 months may be considered
  2. Consistently demonstrates behaviours that reinforce the CORE Values of our organisation; Collaboration, Openness, Respect and Empowerment. Demonstrates these behaviours with all stakeholders; colleagues, direct reports, as well as our patients and consumers, and those that care for them
  3. Sound clinical knowledge in General Paediatrics demonstrated through successful clinical practice in an environment appropriate to the requirements of the position including evidence of participation in quality assurance activities relevant to the specialty
  4. Demonstrated clinical, diagnostic and technical skills commensurate with functioning as an independent General Paediatrics Consultant
  5. High level interpersonal and communication skills and demonstrated ability to lead and work within a multidisciplinary team environment.
  6. Demonstrated participation in and commitment to undergraduate, postgraduate, interdisciplinary teaching and education, including research, quality improvement, patient safety and risk management.
  7. Preparedness to participate in any on-call service, including on-call rosters already existing or established.
