Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Sexual Assault Counsellor
- Must be Aboriginal descent through parentage, identification as being Aboriginal and being accepted in the community as such under Section 14(d) of the NSW Anti Discrimination Act 1977 with knowledge and experience of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture.
- Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Aboriginal Qualification Pathway - Graduate Certificate in Human and Community Services (Interpersonal Trauma) or other relevant counselling degree deemed appropriate by the employer. Social Workers must have eligibility for the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW) and post graduate experience at a minimum of level 2 or above. Psychologists must have a four year degree in psychology, being a three year degree with a fourth year honours in psychology; or a qualification deemed equivalent by the employer.
- Demonstrated understanding and skills in providing culturally responsive child centred, family focussed counselling, support and case management to individuals who have experienced sexual assault and/ or other forms of interpersonal violence and their families. Demonstrated ability to create connections, engagement and collaboration with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community to affect outcomes with an understanding of intergenerational trauma, contextual and causal factors for violence, abuse and neglect and the principles of cultural safety. Demonstrated experience participating in and/or leading quality improvement activities, service development and evaluation.
