We are seeking a Deputy Director of Medical Services (DDMS) to play a pivotal role in our clinical leadership team.  This is an exceptional opportunity for a visionary applicant seeking to further their career whilst supporting the Director of Medical Services and leadership team to drive innovation and implement best practices in medical administration across our district.  You will collaborate with multidisciplinary partners to foster success and transform healthcare delivery. 
Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist the Director of Medical Services though deputising as directed, providing support to the clinical divisions to maintain service provision.
  • Provide a leadership role to medical staff at the rural hospitals in support of the Director of Medical Services and the Executive Officer of each hospital to mitigate issues and acting as a role model of professional standards.
  • Contribute to the implementation, monitoring and evaluation of medical services at all facilities, including but not limited to: Clinical Governance and Clinical Risk Management; Morbidity & Mortality Review; Sentinel Incident Review; collection, review and action on Hospital-wide and specific clinical indicators; EQUIP and HETI accreditation processes to assist in meeting professional, NSW Health and Northern NSW Local Health District (NNSWLHD) standards, policies and guidelines and to meet compliance with reporting.
  • Responsible for attending to medico-legal issues, including the acceptance of and actioning of subpoenas when received and liaison with the network insurer to ensure that timeframes are met and in compliance with legal obligations.
  • Manage complaints and incidents actively as they arise and review complaints in relation to medical services. Enable early investigation, fact finding and the identification of issues for addressing and/or resolution or further action as appropriate. Provide reports and required documentation/data entry within required timeframes.
  • Manage administrative matters associated with the appointment procedures of Junior Medical Staff for the Richmond Network Hospitals, ensuring that they are in accordance with appropriate industrial awards, agreements and policies of the NNSWLHD.
  • Provide human resource management through implementing and overseeing efficient processes and systems for induction, staff support, rosters, leave cover, annual/conference leave entitlements and database management as well as recruitment of Junior Medical Staff ensuring staffing levels and knowledge are maintained to provide safe levels of service delivery.

Selection Criteria 

  1. Eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia as a Specialist Medical Administrator, and/or specialist international medical graduate pathways or working tworards such eligiblity, or equivalent qualification and experience as provided for in the Staff Specialist (State) Award.  Or eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia as a Specialist Medical Practitioner, and/or specialist international medical graduate pathways.
  2. Demonstrated capability to effectively manage junior medical workforce
  3. Demonstrated commitment to the principles and practices of clinical governance and clinical risk management and demonstrated capacity to implement and maintain continuous quality improvement management strategies
  4. Sound understanding of contemporary Health Service issues and the proven ability to prioritise and effectively manage resources to address these issues
  5. Communication, negotiation, consultative and interpersonal skills, incorporating the ability to liaise and consult with all levels of the health industry, the community and various professional groups
  6. Valid unrestricted drivers' licence for use in NSW/Australia and willingness to travel in the course of employment
  7. Ability to participate in Executive on call roster
