Lismore Base Hospital (LBH) is one of the largest Rural Hospitals in NSW Health. It receives referrals from Grafton Base Hospital and several district hospitals in Northern NSW coastal and inland towns, including Ballina, Byron Bay, Maclean, Casino and Kyogle. LBH has a large cohort of Junior Medical Staff and also a number of BPTs and ATs in the various medical/surgical subspecialties. LBH has its own accredited Registrar training programs and is a site for the FRACP clinical exams.
The Cardiology Department is supported by an accredited AT, an accredited BPT Registrar and a medical trainee, two interns/RMOs and medical students. The department has five Cardiologists and offers inpatient and outpatient services in interventional cardiology, pacemaker implantation, echocardiography, CT coronary angiography, cardiac MRI, exercise stress testing and Cardiac Rehabilitation. LBH has a dedicated 24-bed cardiac ward, which includes six CCU beds. The department has a Cath Lab open from Monday through Friday with a 24-hour emergency call-back service.
The Cardiology Department has an active teaching program for junior doctors, which includes a Journal Club, M&M and Physician meetings, Medical Grand Rounds and specific AT training in the Cath Lab. LBH also has an associated Rural Health Medical School, which receives medical students from Sydney, Wollongong, and Western Sydney Universities, all of whom do rotations through the unit.
Lismore is a large rural centre and is home to one of the three main campuses for Southern Cross University. Lismore is situated in the beautiful Northern Rivers hinterland. It is only thirty minutes from some of the most popular beaches in Australia, including Byron Bay, Lennox Head and Ballina. It is a famous region to visit, live in and retire to, with excellent local schools and services. Ballina Byron Gateway airport offers regular flights to Sydney and Melbourne. Lismore is only one hour drive from the Gold Coast International Airport.

- Eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia as a Specialist Cardiologist, and/or overseas trained specialist pathways
- Demonstrated recent clinical experience in Cardiology at the role delineation of the service
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team and provide leadership of a team
- Demonstrated effective clinical communication through the use of information technology and written, verbal and interpersonal skills
- Demonstrated commitment to teaching, continuing education, research and quality improvement
- Availability to participate in an on-call roster and to respond on site within a reasonable time
