Hawkesbury District Health Service is a teaching hospital in Windsor NSW, providing acute, community and allied health services for the local community and surrounding districts. The service provides 24-hour emergency, medical, surgical, diagnostic, maternity, neonatal, paediatric, palliative, intensive and coronary care services.

We are seeking to engage a reliable and customer focused Emergency Clerk to join the Emergency Department. The role provides efficient and effective patient services while supporting National Emergency Access Targets and working in accordance with mandatory policies and procedures. Responsibilities include accurate collection of mandatory patient registration data, interviewing admitted patients and providing information to support informed decisions regarding Private Health Insurance, and identifying and recording details for Private, Overseas, DVA, MVA and Workers Compensation patients.

The Emergency Clerk provides timely communication support to clinical staff, undertakes transfer and discharge duties promptly and accurately, compiles and maintains patient health care records, provides clerical support to the Emergency Department Short Stay Unit, and receipts monies for items purchased by ambulatory patients. A strong focus on delivering exceptional customer service to patients, relatives and hospital visitors is essential.

What you will bring to the role

  1. Experience in a frontline customer service role and the ability to effectively use problem solving and negotiation skills
  2. Demonstrated good written and verbal communication skills as well as strong interpersonal skills
  3. Demonstrated ability to work autonomously and in a multi-disciplinary team environment
  4. Demonstrated computer literacy including proficient keyboard and data entry skills
  5. Willingness and ability to work a 24 hour rotating roster with flexibility and able to work additional shifts as requested
  6. Ability to work under pressure in a busy and demanding environment
  7. Ability to organise and set work priorities to meet department benchmarks and KPIs
  8. Understanding of and commitment to maintaining confidentiality
