Nepean Hospital is a teaching hospital that provides tertiary referral services in emergency care, coronary care, diagnostics, gynaecology, paediatric, neonatal intensive care/ICU, maternity, mental health, rehabilitation, and surgery. On offer is a Temporary Part time role until December 2025 as an Occupational Therapist Level 5 to join the Acute Services Team located at Nepean Hospital.

The successful candidate will lead, guide and manage the Occupational Therapy Acute Services and implement high levels of clinical expertise in order to provide high quality Occupational Therapy care to clients of Nepean Hospital consistent with NSW Health and Nepean Blue Mountains Local Health District (NBMLHD) policies, procedures and standards.

This role has Management, Education and Clinical elements, which support the overall management of the Occupational Therapy Department, as well as directing the delivery of Occupational Therapy services across the acute care services including (but not limited to) neurology, trauma, orthopaedics, neurosurgery, general surgery, vascular and general medical services.

What you will bring to the role

  1. Recognised qualification in Occupational Therapy in accordance with Schedule C of the NSW Health Professionals (State) Award, current registration with AHPRA and commitment to own ongoing professional development.
  2. Extensive post graduate clinical experience in Acute Services, including (but not limited to) neurology, trauma, orthopaedics, neurosurgery, general surgical, vascular and general medical.
  3. Demonstrated excellent leadership ability, supervisory and management skills and demonstrated ability to effectively manage the operational and administrative responsibilities of a hospital-based team.
  4. Excellent written and verbal communication skills including the ability to provide consultancy regarding Occupational therapy matters and to produce reports and other documents for use at an executive level.
  5. Excellent negotiation, decision making and advocacy skills including the ability to interact constructively and collaboratively with a diverse range of stakeholders throughout all organisational levels.
  6. Ability to set strategic service goals, develop and implement policy, and lead service improvement through research and continuous quality improvement.
  7. Ability to work as a part of a multidisciplinary team and to apply advanced clinical reasoning skills and independent professional judgement when dealing with situations of a novel, complex or critical nature.
  8. Current Class C driver’s license and willingness to use it for work purposes.
