The Activity Nurse (RN) within the NBMLHD Mental Health service initiates, leads and supports a ward-based activity program in the inpatient setting with a focus on providing patient-centred care. This role is targeted at supporting mental health consumers on their unique journey of recovery by providing opportunities for meaningful engagement through both group-based and 1:1 activity; considering the consumers own interests, goals and current acuity. These activities include diversional, occupational, physical, and social activities that are dependent on the patient cohort at any given time.
This role is also positioned to provide and promote healthy lifestyles through activities that encompass a psycho-educational approach. The Activity Nurse plans, implements, and evaluates specific mental health nursing care activities that support the multidisciplinary health care team and ensures safe practice within adopted models of care.
