What you'll be doing

To provide clinically and culturally considerate health care services to Aboriginal clients and community to achieve better health outcomes working as part of a multidisciplinary team. 

The Aboriginal Health Practitioner (AHP) will provide a range of direct clinical services to meet the needs of Aboriginal people at defined by the agreed scope of practice. This position delivers primarily virtual services as part of the multidisciplinary ECC team. This team provides care and support for people with later-stage chronic and degenerative conditions across the MNCLHD.

All NSW Health workers are required to have completed a primary course (2 doses) of a Therapeutics Goods Administration (TGA) approved or recognised COVID-19 vaccine (except for the Janssen COVID-19 vaccine, which is approved by the TGA as a single dose primary course).  

New applicants must have completed the vaccination course prior to commencement with NSW Health or provide an Australian Immunisation Register (AIR) immunisation history statement certifying the worker cannot have any approved COVID-19 vaccines available in NSW. A NSW Health agency may require further information about the medical contraindication (including but not limited to an Immunisation Medical Exemption form – IM011 form).

Acceptable proof of vaccination is the Australian Immunisation Register (AIR) Immunisation History Statement or AIR COVID-19 Digital Certificate. Booster doses are highly recommended for all health care workers who have completed the primary course of COVID-19 vaccinations.

Salary will be accordance with NSW Health State Awards for the advertised classification/s.  These awards are available at http://www.health.nsw.gov.au/careers/conditions/pages/default.aspx.

  1. Applicants for this position must be of Aboriginal descent through parentage, identify as being Aboriginal and be accepted in the community as such. All applicants must supply either a letter of Aboriginality signed under the common seal from a recognised incorporated Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander Community organisation
  2. Hold a Certificate IV in Aboriginal Primary Health Care Practice and is registered to practice as an Aboriginal Health Practitioner with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
  3. Demonstrated ability to liaise, proactively engage and work collaboratively with vulnerable communities and relevant agencies in ensuring culturally responsive services, via virtual care and traditional platforms.
  4. Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of key health issues impacting Aboriginal communities across Mid North Coast Local Health District.
  5. Demonstrated ability to liaise, proactively engage and work collaboratively with vulnerable communities and relevant agencies in ensuring culturally responsive services.
  6. Demonstrated sound written and verbal communication skills and computer literacy with the ability to use relevant software programs (for example: Microsoft 365, EMR and virtual communication tools.
  7. Hold a current Drivers Licence and have the ability to travel as required.
