What you'll be doing

MNCLHD New Street Service is a NSW Health child protection initiative and part of a developing network of services delivered by Local Health Districts in New South Wales. It provides counselling intervention to families of children and young people (10 17 years) who have sexually harmed.

The Senior Clinician has a key role in ensuring the delivery of quality, specialist services in a forensic service, provide clinical leadership and guidance in the planning, policy development and service delivery in a complex forensic clinical setting.
  1. Tertiary Degree in Social Work or other equivalent qualification providing eligibility for membership of AASW or Current full registration with the Psychology Board of Australia with a four year degree in psychology, being a three year degree with a fourth year honours in psychology, or a qualification deemed equivalent by the employer and have completed a minimum of one year at the 9th year of service and thereafter point on the salary scale for Psychologist; or Current full registration with the Psychology Board of Australia with a Masters Degree or higher in Clinical Psychology, Clinical Neuropsychology or some other recognised clinical area in Psychology that the employer deems relevant to the functions of the position. Postgraduate qualification must be of no less than two (2) years full time duration (or part time equivalent) and include professional clinical coursework, clinical training and supervised placement experience as core components.
  2. Meets the requirement for the Child Sex Offender Counsellor Accreditation Scheme.
  3. Demonstrated extensive post graduate clinical (therapeutic) experience including demonstrated capacity to work therapeutically with people who have sexually abused and/or experienced abuse and postgraduate clinical practice in the area of sexual assault, violence and abuse or related.
  4. Understanding of the impact of colonisation on Aboriginal people and communities and its relationship to Aboriginal Family Violence. Demonstrated ability to effectively work with Aboriginal communities in culturally competent ways and commitment to addressing Aboriginal health and community needs.
  5. Demonstrated understanding of the legal and policy framework which governs sexual assault and child protection in NSW, including the recent Special Commission of Inquiry into Child protection and the Keep Them Safe; A shared approach to child wellbeing 2009 – 2014 action plan. Understanding of the legal and policy framework governing child protection in NSW.
  6. Demonstrated excellent communication and interpersonal skills, both verbal and written including a demonstrated high level of negotiation and facilitation skills with a strong family and young person approach.
  7. Demonstrated ability to work as a senior member of a therapeutic team.
  8. Demonstrated experience in providing clinical supervision and clinical leadership within a team
