What you'll be doing
To provide flexible, holistic and culturally sensitive health service to families with Aboriginal children from conception to 5 years and work with communities to achieve better health outcomes and better access to health services for Aboriginal people within the Mid North Coast Local Health District. This work will be informed by the NSW First 2000 Days Framework. 

This is a Category A position. Recommended applicants will be reviewed for compliance with NSW Health policy directive for Category A positions prior to offer.

Salary will be accordance with NSW Health State Awards for the advertised classification/s.  These awards are available at http://www.health.nsw.gov.au/careers/conditions/pages/default.aspx.

A TALENT POOL MAY BE CREATED FOR FUTURE ROLES AND WILL REMAIN VALID FOR 18 MONTHS.

  1. Applicants for this position must be of Aboriginal descent through parentage, identify as being Aboriginal and be accepted in the community as such. All applicants must supply either a letter of Aboriginality signed under the common seal from a recognised incorporated Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander Community organisation such as Land Council or Elders group, Aboriginal Medical Service or a letter on letterhead from a Local Aboriginal Land Council demonstrating membership of the Council. Exemption is claimed under Section 14D of the Anti-discrimination Act 1977 (NSW).
  2. Holds or aspires to hold a minimum Certificate III qualification in Aboriginal Primary Health Care or a minimum Certificate III health qualification in the area of care in which the Aboriginal Health Worker works and a willingness to participate in additional training as required.
  3. Knowledge and understanding of the dynamics and impacts of intergenerational trauma, family violence, sexual assault and child abuse in relation to Aboriginal families.
  4. Knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal culture, historical contexts which may influence health, and relevant Aboriginal health and other national and state policies/strategies in particular an understanding of First 2000 Days Framework.
  5. Demonstrated interpersonal skills and ability to communicate with vulnerable Aboriginal clients, families and communities, and build and maintain strong networks with other services and health professionals ensuring cultural considerations are included in service delivery.
  6. Demonstrated knowledge and ability to maintain confidentiality; prepare documentation and information management; relevant Child Protection policies; and complete mandatory reporting requirements through use of appropriate software programs (e.g. word processing, data management systems).
  7. Current Driver's Licence and ability to travel as required.
